Petition

Brian Buxton, Leader of the Popular Alliance Slams Government Democracy "Spin"

The government has turned its nose up at democracy and has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it lied when it said it wanted to engage public opinion on policy.

No10 gave the nation false hope by putting an online petition on the government website to lull the public into thinking it would take people’s concerns seriously, yet despite an online petition against the governments plans to introduce road pricing in the UK, which has now gained more than 1 million signatures, the public are treated to derisory and snide comments from ministers and officials.

When the petition reached 600,000 it broke all records for being the largest petition ever, yet a government minister dismissed the 600,000 road pricing petition as 'nonsense', while Downing Street said the Prime Minister had no intention of abandoning plans to tax drivers by the mile.

It has now reached a staggering 1 million, and we can see both Labour and Tories trying their best to debunk democracy by putting their own spin on something the British motorist clearly don’t want.

The Conservative's Transport Spokesman, Chris Grayling, said the level of opposition was more an indictment of the message, rather than the policy.

"I think the big issue is that the government hasn't really explained itself," he said.

However Mr Grayling said there was a role in the future for road pricing, but that it should be used to fund particular improvements to the infrastructure.

It would seem the Conservatives also wish to stealth tax the British motorist along with Blair and Brown, with Blair’s official spokesman acknowledging that people "did feel strongly about this issue, but feeling strongly was not a substitute for coming up with practical proposals.

" As for the petition website, set up to obviously con the British voters, a Downing Street spokesman said: "We welcome this landmark in our e-petitions service, which is proving to be a popular way for people to get their views heard.

"We look forward to further developing the service in the coming months to help citizens engage with the work of government."

Brian Buxton of the Popular Alliance told us “It would seem this is another abject failure and waste of money, the government nor the opposition career politicians are ever going to listen to the ordinary people, you could argue we live under dictatorship as far as democracy and communicating with the public are concerned”.

I think at least one million UK people would probably agree with that statement Brian.
